Sort files, switch projects, then ask your AI to set up the desktop with pecofence-cli. Half a minute, original soundtrack, no voiceover, English on-screen text.

Everything in its right place.

Each feature comes with a short animation of how to use it. The manual walks through every step.

Your desktop, one shortcut away

Press Ctrl Alt Space to bring your fences above the current app. Esc takes you back.

Less sorting

Rules based on file type, name, wildcard, age or size put new items in the right fence. Files stay where they are on disk.

Keep a folder close

A live folder on your desktop. Open subfolders and watch changes arrive as they happen.

Clear some space

Double-click the desktop to hide every fence, and again to bring them back. Roll a fence up to its title when you need the room.

Your desktop. Configured by your AI.

Tell your AI agent how you want your desktop to work. The bundled pecofence-cli lets Claude Code, Codex and Cursor read your current setup and apply changes directly in PecoFence.

  • Configure it in your own words. Change themes, transparency, icon sizes and global settings, or adjust every fence at once.
  • Organize once. Keep it organized. Create project fences, arrange icons and add rules that sort new files automatically.
  • Save a setup you like. Use snapshots for fence layouts and configuration export/import for settings, rules and layouts.

Try it with your AI agent

Open PecoFence, then paste this request into your AI coding agent:

The CLI is included. The Microsoft Store edition adds pecofence-cli to PATH. With the portable ZIP, give your agent the path to pecofence-cli.exe.

Use pecofence-cli to configure my desktop. First read pecofence-cli skill and pecofence-cli describe, then inspect my current settings and fences. Back up my configuration before changes. Switch to dark mode and make all fences more transparent.

Built for agents and scripts: describe exposes the command catalog and JSON Schemas; skill prints the agent guide. JSON results report what changed, and structured application errors help the agent choose its next step.

Small details that add up

Glass that fits your wallpaper
Fluent and Liquid Glass themes, light and dark modes, per-fence colors, opacity and icon tinting.

Familiar file handling
File Explorer context menus, drag and drop, copy and paste, multi-select, thumbnails, and icon, list or details views.

Space when you need it
Roll a fence up to its title bar. Hover to expand. Lock a layout once you like it.

A way back
Layout snapshots, daily backups, configuration import and export, and swapping fences between displays.

A small footprint
A native Rust application. The settings panel loads WebView2 only when you open it.

Your files stay put
Automatic rules only change which fence shows a file. Moves you start yourself work exactly as in File Explorer.

Get PecoFence

Made for a desktop you enjoy coming back to.

Microsoft Store edition, signed by Microsoft. Or the portable ZIP for x64: no account, no installer. Apache 2.0 license.

Three steps

  1. Download the latest pecofence-v<version>-x64-portable.zip from the releases page.
  2. Extract the whole ZIP into a folder and run pecofence.exe.
  3. Start organizing. The tray icon opens Settings whenever you need it.

Prefer the command line? winget install DayuanJiang.PecoFence installs the same build and skips the SmartScreen prompt.

Prefer an installer? pecofence-v<version>-x64-setup.exe from the releases page installs PecoFence for your Windows user, with a Start menu entry and an uninstaller.

The first launch creates four fences in your language: Programs, Folders, Files and documents, and Desktop. Your desktop icons come back when you exit.

Before you start
  • Windows 10 22H2 or Windows 11, x64.
  • Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime for the Settings window. Windows 11 already includes it; Windows 10 may need to install it.
  • Keep WebView2Loader.dll and pecofence-watchdog.exe beside the app.
  • Portable builds are unsigned. If Windows SmartScreen appears on first launch, choose More info, then Run anyway. Installing from the Microsoft Store or through winget avoids the prompt.
